Comanche Outpost is very rustic and closed for the winter from November 1 to March 1.During summer months, groups must check in after 4:00 p.m. and check out before 10:00 a.m.

Central Bathhouse:

Comanche Bath House Near Cabin 3, the Bathhouse has two sets of facilities (men and women), each including two lavatories, two commodes, and two showers.

Kitchen/Dining:

The screened-in kitchen is furnished with a commercial LP gas range (six burners, a conventional oven, and a grill), a three-well sink for washing dishes, an ice machine, a refrigerator, a freezer, a pantry, and adequate counter and cupboard space.

The kitchen is supplied with plates, bowls, cups, tumblers, flatware, and serving pieces. Food preparation utensils and containers are well-stocked including large spoons, forks, ladles, spatulas, tongs, sharp knives, large bowls, sheet pans, roasting pans, a coffee maker, pitchers, funnels, strainer/colander, whisk, etc. The dining porch is covered but not enclosed and is equipped with picnic tables and benches. Housing for 2 cooks is adjacent to the kitchen.

  • Please do not use disposable products such as paper plates, plastic cups, tableware, etc.
  • You must bring all consumable goods such as paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, dish towels, soap, cleaning supplies, etc.
  • Please plan to haul your garbage to a dumpster located on the property.
  • BBQ barrels are available, but you must bring your own charcoal, firewood, and starter.

Pavilion:

An open-air covered pavilion with bleacher seating can be used for meetings, worship, activities, etc.

Waterfront:

Blue Hole Comanche Outpost has the most dramatic swimming area on the property. Known as Blue Hole, it is situated at the base of Circle Bluff, at the headwaters of the Frio River. The water is deep (30 feet) and safe only for competent swimmers. There is no wading area.

  • A certified lifeguard must supervise all waterfront activity.
  • While fishing, please observe our “catch and release” policy.
  • No canoes are available.

Recreation:

  • A site is designated for a campfire—firewood is not provided.
  • Sand volleyball and half-court basketball are located near the dining porch. You must provide your own sports equipment.
  • Playing fields are not available in this campsite.
  • Hiking trails are nearby.
